There are a number of outlets who can offer free and confidential advice on contraception, don’t be afraid to ask, even if you are under 16 they will still help you, it doesn’t matter if you are a young man or young woman, they are there to HELP!
There are two obvious places where you can go for advice on contraception, your GP and local clinic a list of your local GP’s can be found in this section.
If you are under 16 your doctor can still offer you free contraception but only if he thinks that you are responsible and mature enough to understand the situation. They will have a consultation with you and decided there and then whether or not you can have free contraception. If he doesn’t think you are mature enough you can still approach your local clinic or family planning centre where they will do a similar consultation.
You will only get their help if you are mature and respectful of the relationship you want to enter into. They will always give you free advice and support but they will not give you free contraception if they don’t think it’s the right thing to do.
All consultations and advice will be given in confidence, a doctor or nurse will not tell your parents about your visit. They may need to talk to somebody else if they feel that your safety is in danger, but this will be discussed with you first.
There is another place you can go for advice on contraception, it may not be the coolest thing to do but it will be a great source of information and the best support you can get, YOUR PARENTS! They have been through it all, they will know your situation the best and will be able to give you the best advice, they will also appreciate being involved in your decisions, it is your decision, that’s why it is IMPORTANT TO MAKE THE RIGHT DECISION!
